Frequently Asked Questions
Is it
possible for me to have a full demonstration on land and water before
ordering a SeaRoader? Yes, of course. The only thing that
we ask is that all demonstrations are by appointment so that we can be
assured of allocating enough time to do this properly. Why steel?
Simply because it is the most suitable material for SeaRoader to be
constructed from! SeaRoader can do what it does and is adaptable for
any requirements due to it being made from steel. Can you imagine for
example, bolting a winch onto a GRP vehicle? (might be O.K. reinforced
with steel though!). Seriously though, steel makes the SeaRoader
immensely strong and can be easily repaired should you park on a huge
rock for instance! Not only do we use steel for the main body
structure which is hugely thick at 16 gauge, the external chassis is
also steel and ultra strong at 3mm thick! To prove the longevity of
this material the underneath of the central tub of the original
development SeaRoader was left unpainted or treated. After 4 years of
being used in salt and fresh water it has hardly been affected by rust
and you are more than welcome to inspect this on your visit. Oh and
yes, next time you are on the cross channel ferry, check out what it
is made from. In fact take a look at all of the other large vessels
around. How do I
register my SeaRoader? Depending on your intended
application there are several ways of going about this. We are happy
to take you through all of the options when you visit us for a
demonstration. Does a
SeaRoader have to comply with any regulations for use on water in the
UK? Yes, it does if you wish to use inland waters. You will
have to obtain a Boat Safety Certificate. However, all SeaRoader's
comply to this scheme and we will be happy to arrange the test for
you. Can I visit
you to see my car being built? Yes, if we are building a
complete car for you then we actively encourage you to come and see it
during the build process. One engine or
two? Most definitely two! If your engine stops in a normal
road car it is a simple matter of getting assistance, but what would
you do on the water? Makes you think doesn't it? The SeaRoader as you
will have read elsewhere can be powered by it's Auger and Beta drives.
Weight penalty for the Beta in a SeaRoader? Not even worth mentioning
when you weigh up the advantages including a diesel consumption of around
only 1 Litre per hour! Unless that is you fancy rowing an Amphibian
that only has one engine! But then again, as an after thought and to
play safe, I guess you could use an outboard motor on a suitable mounting!
However, if you insist and have good reason, we can supply a SeaRoader
with a power take off driving either a Jet or a Stern tube How fast
does the SeaRoader go in the water? The majority of
Amphibious cars are displacement vessels meaning that they do not ride
on top of the water (plane). For this reason they are never going to
be sport boat fast. But this is fine and most boats are of a
displacement design. There is a formula that is based on the vessels
length which is applicable to all craft but there are other
determining factors. The SeaRoader under Beta propulsion manages just
over 6 MPH which is perfectly respectable for this type of Amphibious
vehicle. How does SeaRoader
compare to other Amphibians? SeaRoader is unique and quite
simply is not comparable to other Amphibians! We have purchased and
tested a lot of other Amphibious vehicles to ensure that the design
of SeaRoader is the best available. A lot of amphibians are very compromised
on the road and one of the major issues is overheating. Others and myself
included, over the years have used every trick in the book to keep them
cool with little success. The new SeaRoader however, has opted for a
completely different chain of thought and you can drive it on the hottest
of days with no overheating issues whatsoever. All this has been done
without resorting to extra fans - lift up flaps or any other such means.
SeaRoader is the best commercially available multi-role production amphibian
available at this price. This is a claim that we will gladly back
up with any back to back test against any other manufacturer. What is the waiting time for a SeaRoader? As of today, the waiting time for kits is approximately 6 weeks due to demand but this may change at short notice. The sooner that you place an order the sooner you will get your SeaRoader.
